Society of Colonial Wars in the State of Florida

October 2009: Secretary Knowles is arranging for invitations to the November 10, 2009 membership luncheon at the Sailfish Club to list the speaker and to be mailed. The bar area renovation project will not interfere with our November or December meetings. Program Committee Chairman Hurt has invited Ben Brotemarkle, PhD, Executive Director of the Florida Historical Society and you likely will find he presents a fresh and varied perspective on making history more accessible.

Registrar Voss and Membership Committee Chairman Hurt have four new members for us to welcome.

A call for Nominations Committee members is made. Please communicate your interest or nomination(s) to long-serving Past-Governor Morrish, Deputy Governor Knowles, or Governor Ward. Aside from the slate to be presented at our annual court, there are vacancies to fill as early as November. A call is made in particular for a Grants and Contributions Committee Chairman. Please communicate your interest or nomination(s) to Past-chairmen Searcy, Jones, or Governor Ward. A 2010 Grants list will be presented at Council, and Past-chairman Searcy has a turnover notebook to help the transition process.

Treasurer Searcy is preparing to have advance 2010 dues notices mailed as is our custom this time of year.

Gala Co-chairmen Knowles and Bitting are continuing 2010 Annual Court preparations. Chairman Morrish is continuing preparations for the 2010 Gala Luncheon.

reminder: Warriors desiring paraphernalia may either request them from Decorations/Awards Chairman Stickney, or Warriors may review past "Gazette" back pages and order directly from GSCW Executive Director Mealey. The most recent issues omit the information awaiting GSCW vendor selection early November.
